The Old Presbyterian Church Hall Erected in 1899, the Queenstown Presbyterian Church was built from donations made by the congregation, starting with 50 pounds donated by Mr. Robert Sticht, General Manager of the Mount Lyell Mine.
Beneath the foundation stone laid by Mrs. Sticht in December is a copy of the declaration of the church, a copy of the Mount Lyell standard, a coin of the realm and a photo of the plans of the building.
It was designed by local architects Austin & Keogh and was built by Mr. R. Urquhart.
At the rear of the group of buildings is a smaller timber church built by the Presbyterian Congregation of Linda in 1914.
It was relocated to Queenstown in 1921-22. We don't know how they managed to move it down Gormanston Hill |
